A friend and I participated in a 2 month game jam themed around horror games. This is probably the the most experimental project I've worked on yet, Even if the results aren't nearly as visually impressive as most of the stuff I can do, I still had a lot of fun.
I've never done anything narrative focused so far. I was pretty excited because I'm a storyteller at heart. So I went ham with the world building for this game. Perhaps a little too ambitious. >>'
I was not alone however, my team mate who was the programmer had background in software engineering, so he thought it was a good idea to make a game engine from scratch for this 2 month jam. I fully supported this XD
The game was very stripped down from the initial plan. It ended up being an impressive tech demo for the engine and custom language for branching dialogue system (that he also made) more then an a game with gameplay. It didn't stop this experience from being fun and educational for both of us.
Makes me think however, about how hard it actually is to make a story heavy game. Its insanity. No matter how simple the plan was it was still miles out of reach. Oh well, I came up with a whole Idea for an IP because of what I did here lol. Guess I'll try next time ^^'
